From the sun-kissed shores of Perth, Western Australia, to the vibrant cultural hub of Melbourne, Victoria, Sunny Albeau has emerged as a trailblazing force in the music scene. Known for his electrifying fusion of funky-blues, electro-pop, and disco-jazz, Sunny's sound is as eclectic as it is unforgettable. 

As is his story. 

While at film school studying to be a writer-director, Sunny experienced an unusual brain injury that not only sparked constant music in his head, it also jumbled his memories to the point that he believed he was already playing the Hammond organ in a band. So convinced was he that he must be able to play the music he could constantly hear, that he set about teaching himself to play. 

Dedicating himself to his craft since the age of 20, Sunny has since carved out a niche that defies genre boundaries. His musical journey is heavily influenced by the eclectic sounds of The Triffids, the creative genius of David Bowie, the iconic compositions of Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler, and the organ grinding of Jimmy Smith. This diverse tapestry of influences has enabled Sunny to forge a unique musical identity rooted in tradition, yet brimming with innovation. 

Sunny's debut was a testament to his avant-garde approach, setting the stage for a career defined by unexpected twists and creative breakthroughs. However, it was the release of

"The Shark Song" in 2020 that truly catapulted him into the limelight. The track’s infectious rhythms and thought-provoking lyrics struck a chord with listeners, earning him a devoted fanbase that spans across Australia and beyond. 

Says Sunny of making music: 

“On one hand, it feels like a compulsion I can’t control and, on the other, it feels like it’s my mission to take it as far as I can out of respect and gratitude for being given the gift of music through a near-death experience. That life-changing event helped me realise life is too short. I feel a certain responsibility towards all of the original music I have created as I honestly feel it has come through me, not from me.” 

Sunny's forthcoming release promises to be a thrilling addition to his repertoire, pushing the boundaries of his funky electro sound even further. With aspirations to perform at Amsterdam's legendary Melkweg, Sunny Albeau dreams of international acclaim and he has the talent to make it happen. But it’s true audience connection through the exploration of the human experience that he truly seeks. 

“Good vibes, heartfelt feelings of love and longing, appreciation for the world, the beauty of nature, the beauty of love, the sadness that’s out there, the blues, the unknown, the collective experiences of rhythm and of our souls dancing into the future with hope,” says Sunny about his musical themes. 

“Love and lust and being lost somewhere in between.”
